AI Transformation ◆ Fashionably Decoded

“You are not behind. You are being invited to evolve.”

Sonia Aslam makes AI transformation understandable, elegant and practical, for leaders, for organisations, and for the women who were told to tone down.

About Sonia

Two decades in rooms that were not always ready for her. She stayed anyway.

Sonia Aslam is a senior data and AI transformation leader with twenty years of enterprise experience across consumer electronics, financial services, telecommunications, professional services and retail.

Her thought leadership sits at the precise intersection of artificial intelligence, organisational transformation, and the reclamation of professional identity, particularly for women leading in a world being rewritten by AI.

Couture & Code was born in a waiting room. Called for interview for a coding role, looked at from the shoes upward, and told: “This is for the coding role.” She said: “Yes. I know. That is me.” They wanted the code without the couture. She decided they could have both or neither. They chose both. They always do, when you give them no alternative.

Ten chapters, one Interlude, and the frameworks to lead the most significant professional transition of our generation.

Business non-fiction Leadership · Technology ~70,000 words

From the foreword

Sonia is exactly the right person to have written this book. She is an empathetic leader and a genuine advocate for women in technology, and she stays ahead of the curve on AI and leadership from a human perspective rather than a purely technical one. That is rarer than it sounds.

Plenty of people can explain what AI does. Very few can make you feel why it matters, who it should serve, and how to lead through it without losing yourself. Sonia can, and does.

What early readers say

When Sonia speaks, the room listens. A powerhouse in the world of data and AI, she combines brilliance, clarity and vision with a rare ability to translate complexity into possibility. Couture & Code brings that thinking to life: intelligent, bold, full of personality and unafraid to challenge convention. A powerful call for women to shape the future of AI, in the boardroom and beyond. Fashionably, of course.

Thirty-five years in data and AI have taught me that the technology is never the hard part, people are. Sonia Aslam understands this well, because she has led transformation at a scale where the human layer is everything, and it shows on every page.

What I love about this book is its generosity: real frameworks, honestly explained, by someone who has earned the right. And her central argument is one I wish more leaders would hear – that the skills AI leadership needs are the ones so many women have quietly spent their careers building.

She is right. Read her.

Couture & Code is a refreshing take on AI because Sonia Aslam goes far beyond simply explaining the technology. She explores the very human side of AI transformation – leadership, confidence, bias, workplace culture and bringing people with you through change.

What sets this book apart is its clever use of fashion as a language for making complex ideas accessible, practical and memorable. Although written through the lens of women’s experiences, its lessons on leadership and transformation will resonate with women and men alike. A timely and empowering read for anyone wondering where they belong in an AI-driven future.

A masterclass in making AI human. Sonia doesn’t just explain the technology, she shows you that the instincts for leading transformation are ones you already carry, told with the craft of a storyteller and the eye of a designer. Having delivered alongside her, I can vouch that the substance is real. This changes how you see your own place in the AI era.

Couture & Code makes AI feel human, relevant and genuinely accessible. Sonia combines practical insight with lived experience to show women that they don’t need to reinvent themselves for the AI era. They already possess many of the skills needed to lead it. A timely and empowering read.

What stands out is how effortlessly Sonia brings together two worlds that are rarely put in the same conversation: technology and identity. It is practical, relatable and refreshingly human, reminding women that embracing AI doesn’t mean changing who they are, it means recognising the value they already bring.

Sonia has tailored AI to fit. She never settles for mediocrity, and she reads people as closely as she reads the technology, which is exactly what makes this book land. She doesn’t lecture you on AI; she shows you that the instincts to master it are ones you already carry, told with warmth, craft and style. It changes how you see your own place in the wave we’re all living through.

I have watched Sonia build a career defined by curiosity, courage, energy and an instinct for bringing very different worlds together. Couture & Code captures that perfectly. It is thoughtful, ambitious and unmistakably Sonia – a book that challenges us to think differently about creativity and technology and offers pragmatic reflection prompts.

Steve Hester Steve HesterRegional CIO, Consumer Electronics

A timely read for women at every stage of their careers. Drawing on a whole vault of experience, Sonia shows how women are perfectly prepared for the emergence of AI. Years of friendship since business school have taught me that she’s a woman of style, substance and humility, and it shines through on every page, her trademark humor and candor right there with it.

RJ Eisen RJ EisenCFO, American Food

Through Sonia’s lens, intimidating concepts become tangible and exciting. She proves that the new tech era belongs to everyone, especially those who refuse to choose between intellect and self-expression.

Sarah BurnsSenior Analytical Engineer, Financial Services

This book is a fantastic guide to approaching a daunting – and inevitable – reality, tackling it in a way that feels accessible and attainable for the everyday reader. Drawing on her own personal experiences, Sonia Aslam brings warmth and relatability to a technical subject, making AI feel like something every woman can engage with and understand. It leaves the reader feeling not only that they can navigate an AI-driven world, but that they have possessed the ability to do so all along.

I mentored Sonia during some of the early parts of her career, and even then she refused to be smaller than she was. Couture & Code is the book that proves she was right – rigorous on AI and honest about what it costs women to lead it. She isn’t asking permission any more, and neither should you.
